Jones struggled to make an impact in last season's 2-0 loss
Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones is keen to avenge the memories of last season's 2-0 defeat by rivals Newcastle in Sunday's corresponding fixture.
Jones, 24, was a peripheral figure in the defeat, having figured in a lone striker role and hopes for a greater impact in the match this time around.
"Last year it didn't happen for us," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.
"You don't want to go there and lose to your biggest rivals but hopefully we can go there and put things right."
Meanwhile Jones has defended the partnership between himself and fellow striker Djibril Cisse in the first team.
Some fans and pundits have expressed concerns about the compatibility of the duo, with Michael Chopra and David Healy also waiting in the wings.
But the Trinidad & Tobago international believes the link-up between himself and his French strike-partner is proving a success.
"It takes time, some people click from the first second but others take a few years, but for now for me to put a stipulation on it is hard," he said.
"The question in my mind is what does everybody want? We're both scoring goals, so I don't understand what the big fuss about who plays well off each other.
"We're both playing well in games and doing well for the football club.
"The most important thing is to have a relationship with the team because at the end of the day there's only the team that can win the game.
"We might score goals, but the team has to win the game so once the team's relationship is sorted everything should be alright."
