Reid has scored two goals in 34 appearances in his year on Wearside
Sunderland winger Andy Reid believes he and his team-mates must contribute more goals from other positions and lift the pressure on the club's strikers.
Strikers Djibril Cisse and Kenwyne Jones have scored 12 of Sunderland's 21 league goals and Reid admitted it has been at the forefront of their plans.
"It's an area where we can improve," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.
"It's something that we've been working on in training and in the last few games it's come to the fore."
The 26-year-old was a 4m signing by former boss Roy Keane from Charlton Athletic in January 2008, and helped the Wearsiders to safety, notably with an injury-time winner against West Ham United in March.
Keane's departure and a slump in form have tipped Sunderland close to the relegation zone, but the Republic of Ireland international is confident the appointment of new manager Ricky Sbragia will help ease them clear of danger.
"He does bring a certain calmness which has been evident on the pitch and we've looked a lot more stable," he added.
"It's good to know as an attacker that the defenders are going to do their job and be in the right place at the right time to keep us in the game.
"They look to us to do our job to create something and all of that has stemmed from the calmness Ricky does bring to the team."
