Reid joined Sunderland from Charlton in January 2008
Sunderland winger Andy Reid has urged fans not to panic over the club's form and believes there are many positives to take from the season so far.
Reid, 26, figured in Sunday's defeat by West Ham that left the Wearsiders in 17th place but the Irishman feels it is too early to consider league positions.
"We're disappointed that we didn't get a result but there's no cause to panic," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.
"There's no reason to let our heads drop, we're in a reasonable position."
Reid was signed by manager Roy Keane in January for 4m from Championship side Charlton, and the skilful Republic of Ireland international quickly endeared himself to fans with a string of cultured displays in midfield.
This season's campaign has seen the former Nottingham Forest winger flitting in and out of the side, as Keane mixes and matches his midfield depending on the opposition.
And Reid conceded he must remain patient when a more physical approach is required in that part of the field.
"My job is to be creative when I do play but that's not always what the manager is looking for and I have to understand that," he said.
"And if I'm not doing that then maybe I have to change and do what he is looking for in that particular game.
"All that I can do is when I get the opportunity, show what I can do, help the team perform and trust the manager's judgement."
