Sunderland defender Paul McShane should be back to full fitness in time for the new Premier League season after undergoing a knee operation.
The Republic of Ireland defender, 22, fractured a knee-cap while on holiday and was brought back to Sunderland.
Black Cats doctor Glenn Rae told the club website: "The operation was a success, Paul will undergo intensive rehabilitation during the pre-season.
"We're hopeful he'll be able to return to action by the start of the season."
