Sunderland have signed Republic of Ireland international defender Paul McShane from West Brom. The Black Cats have paid �1.5m for the 21-year-old, though the transfer fee for the full-back could rise to �2.5m.
McShane played for Albion for just one season after joining the Baggies from Manchester United last summer, making 42 appearances and scoring three times.
"I want to thank Paul for his contribution last season," said West Brom manager Tony Mowbray.
Sunderland will pay West Brom �250,000 if the Black Cats retain their top-flight status this season or regain it during McShane's stay in the north-east, with �750,000 of the transfer linked to appearances.

"He's a terrific lad with a terrific attitude to football, but Paul intimated to me in very strong terms that his ambitions lay away from this football club."
McShane is Sunderland boss Roy Keane's sixth signing of the summer after recruiting Greg Halford, Russell Anderson, Michael Chopra, Kieran Richardson and Dickson Etuhu.
