Keane heralds Reid's late winner

Roy Keane
Keane believes fellow Irishman Reid has been a vital signing

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has labelled midfielder Andy Reid's stoppage-time winner against West Ham as one of the most important in the club's history.

The Irishman paid tribute to his compatriot's volley which gave the Wearsiders a lifeline in their battle against Premier League relegation.

"It was a big goal for us, for the season, for the history of the club," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"That's why we brought Reid to the club - because he's capable of producing."

Keane also refused to blame striker Daryl Murphy for a miss that could have cost the Black Cats a vital three points.

"Strikers are going to miss chances but I get more concerned when strikers aren't around the box," he said.

"I've got no problems with Murphy again although he'll probably feel he should have sidefooted it."
