John Kane was briefly with Partick Thistle

Blues manager Gerry Britton, who played alongside Kane at Motherwell, described the latest addition to his squad as an "imposing defender".

The 20-year-old joined Partick Thistle at the start of last season but made only one start and two substitute appearances before his release.

Britton told his club website: "He made a real impact at Glenafton, so we are hoping he can the same for us."

Kane, who began his career with Hibernian, is a former Scotland Under-18 international.

The Stranraer boss said that, apart from being a "good quality" centre-half, Kane could also play right-back and central midfield.

Britton added that he was still looking for an additional striker, midfielders and a centre-half, with a preference for left-sided players, as relegated Stranraer aim for a quick return to Division Two.

He was pleased to have 11 players signed up for the coming season compared to four at the same stage last term.
