Reid left his position as manager of Thailand to join Stoke City
Peter Reid and Stoke City have been described as "the perfect fit for each other" by Reid's former team-mate and assistant Adrian Heath.
Former Sunderland, Leeds and Coventry manager Reid became Tony Pulis's number two at the Britannia Stadium in August.
"When he told me there was an opportunity at Stoke, I knew he would fit well here," ex-Everton midfielder Heath told BBC Radio Stoke.
"He's happy to be helping Tony build the club and help to move it forward."
He added: "He's a big personality and he's got a lot of character. The players will enjoy working with him, but they'll know when it's show time."
Heath, now manager of American Soccer League side Austin Aztex, met up with Reid during his side's tour of England, during which time they will play the Potters, Accrington Stanley and Sheffield Wednesday in friendly matches.
Reid, who left his role as manager of Thailand to move to the Britannia Stadium, joined Gerry Francis on the club's coaching staff, and Heath believes adding more experience behind the scenes can only be of benefit to Stoke.
"You've got John Rudge here, Gerry and Peter. That sort of experience can only be good," he said.
"The Premier League can be a daunting place and you need all the help you can get."
