Euell was an unused substitute in his side's 4-3 defeat
Stoke have apologised to Blackpool's Jason Euell after the midfielder claimed he was subjected to racist abuse at the Britannia Stadium.
Police are looking into the allegations from Euell which came after Blackpool were beaten 4-3 in Tuesday's Carling Cup third round tie.
Potters chief Tony Scholes said: "Stoke apologise to Jason, and Blackpool for the behaviour of this supporter."
A 47-year-old man was taken into custody but has been released on bail.
Scholes added: "We must first wait though for the outcome of the police investigation into this incident before imposing our sanctions upon this person."
Stoke 4-3 Blackpool
Euell has been backed by his Blackpool manager Ian Holloway, who said on Tuesday evening: "There was one horrible moment when a racist remark was made to Jason by one supporter. I hope the fellow is banned for life."
The 32-year-old was an unused substitute as Blackpool let a 2-0 lead slip against their Premier League opposition before losing to an injury-time strike from Andy Griffin.
