Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has admitted that he proved the majority of the pundits wrong by guiding the Potters to Premier League safety.

Saturday's 2-1 win at Hull guaranteed that they would retain their place in the Premier League next year.

Pulis told BBC Radio Stoke: "I like proving people wrong. I've done it all my life, as a player and a manager.

"Everyone at the football club has done it together. The club has stayed in the Premier League, not just the team."

Pulis made a rare appearance on the pitch at full time to celebrate with the travelling supporters.

And the 51-year-old, who had never managed in the Premier League before this season, paid tribute to the fans for their impact on the top flight.

"Football is all about supporters," he added. "Today was a thank you to those supporters that have travelled and have been part of something special at the Britannia.

"They shouldn't underestimate the support they've given us and the help it's given us."

Stoke, who have gained 42 points so far this season, are now certain to finish the highest of the three promoted teams - both of whom, West Bromwich Albion and Hull City, remain in relegation trouble.

Stoke face Wigan Athletic at home next Saturday (16 May, 1500 BST) before a trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal on the final day (23 May, 1600 BST).
