Stein's delight at Stoke success

Former Stoke City striker Mark Stein has said that he is delighted to see his old club performing so well in their debut Premier League season.

Stoke are 13th in the table and need two points to ensure their survival.

Stein told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's great to see them in the Premier League, where they deserve to be. Tony Pulis has done a fantastic job for them."

The 43-year-old scored 68 goals for the Potters between 1991 and 1993, before making a big-money move to Chelsea.

Stein, who now works as a physiotherapist at League Two side Barnet, added: "When they first went up, I thought they would stay in the Premier League because of their work ethic and their work-rate.

"The important thing is they get the results. Their home record is fantastic, and everyone who plays at the Britannia Stadium knows they've been in a battle.

"Stoke is a special place and I'm glad that they're getting their rewards after so many years of not reaching the heights that they deserve."

Stein scored over 200 career goals for nine different clubs, before retiring from the professional game in 2003.
