Beattie suited to life at Stoke

Stoke City striker James Beattie has said he has "loved every minute" of his first week as a Potters player.

Beattie, who moved to the Britannia Stadium from Sheffield United for 2.5m, made his Stoke debut in the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I've loved every minute of it, it's a great club and the style of play suits me.

"All the lads know what's required to stay in the league and against Chelsea we showed what we are capable of."

Stoke took the lead at Stamford Bridge through Rory Delap's deft chip over Petr Cech after 60 minutes.

But a famous win was cruelly snatched from them by late goals from Juliano Belleti and Frank Lampard.

Beattie said the manner of the defeat in his first game as Stoke player was hard to take.

"We knew Chelsea would have a lot of possession and a lot of chances, but all 14 players involved for us defended tremendously well," said Beattie.

"To come here and perform as we did and then lose the way we did is very disappointing."

And Beattie said the performance at Stamford Bridge against last year's beaten Champions League finalists should give the Potters great heart for the rest of the season.

"We're all willing to work for each other and that's what makes us a team," said Beattie.

"We knew that Chelsea had better individuals than us, but the gaffer told us before the game that, as a team, we could match them.

"Our work on and off the ball was very good, but to walk off the pitch having lost 2-1 was very hard to swallow," he added.
