Former Crewe manager Steve Holland is line to become Stoke City's new academy director, reports BBC Radio Stoke.
Holland was approached by the Potters after being removed as first-team coach at Crewe on 18 November and was interviewed for the post on Tuesday.
"The club have spoken to a few people and now it will come down to a shortlist," said Stoke boss Tony Pulis.
"I imagine that in the next week we will be very close to appointing the new academy director."
Stoke have been looking for a new academy boss since George Foster left the club to take up a role with Glenn Hoddle's soccer school in November.
Holland was relieved of his duties at Gresty Road after 17 months in charge.
Before taking charge of the Crewe first-team he had held the role of academy director at the Alexandra Stadium.
Current Crewe caretaker boss Dario Gradi said: "Steve is still feeling the effects of leaving Crewe because he was here a long time.
"But wherever he goes he'll do a good job because he's a very capable guy."
