Alan Hutton has apologised to Thomas Sorensen after the Stoke keeper needed stitches in his eye socket following a challenge from the Spurs defender.
Sorensen says he was a millimetre from losing his sight following the incident in Sunday's game.
"I'd like to say sorry and hopefully he comes back as soon as possible," Hutton told BBC Sport.
"It's a contact sport. Things have happened to me and I haven't said anything about it."
The Dane was substituted because of the injury in the second half of the 2-1 win over bottom club Spurs.
Sorensen, 32, claimed the full-back, who was booked for the incident, could have avoided colliding with him.
"It was a millimetre off me losing my sight and it is miraculous there is no more damage," said Sorensen who joined the Potters in the summer on a three-year deal from Aston Villa.
"We are at a stage where it is not funny any more.
"He could have avoided hitting me. He had no chance to reach the ball but he still threw himself into it, leading with his studs.
"The doctor has done a very good job so my face is not totally destroyed."
