Stoke City will know on Thursday whether they have been successful in securing the signature of Haminu Dramani, BBC Radio Stoke reports.
Lokomotiv Moscow's Ghana international winger has trained with the Potters and is thought to be close to securing a six-month loan deal.
However any move would be subject to the 22-year-old securing a work permit.
Dramani, who can operate on either wing and has won 27 caps for the Black Stars, played at the 2006 World Cup.
Potters assistant manager Dave Kemp told BBC Radio Stoke: "He's a player we've known about for a while and we've become aware he might be available.
"He's a pacy winger, which is something we haven't got."
"It's difficult to say how he would do in games because it's different playing in the Premier League than it is in Russia.
"He has the tools to be a success over here but it all depends on how quickly he adapts. He has a talent that we're definitely interested in."
Meanwhile, midfielder Anthony Pulis is expected to complete a move to Southampton before Monday's transfer deadline.
