Sidibe has not scored in 10 games for Stoke so far this term |
Stoke City striker Mamady Sidibe is receiving treatment at the Britannia Stadium after being attacked when representing Mali on Friday. Sidibe and Sevilla striker Fredi Kanoute were both attacked by Togo fans after Mali won 2-0 in Lome to qualify for the 2008 African Cup of Nations.
"Our concerns are with Mama and we hope it is not too serious," said Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes.
Mali coach Jean-Francois Jodar told L'Equipe: "There was blood everywhere."
He added: "Mamady took a blow, doubtless with a weapon, which caused bruising to his arm.
"Frederic was hit with a belt. It was like a battlefield."
Scholes said Stoke were concerned that one of their players could be subjected to such an attack.
"Although we do not yet have full information on what took place in Togo, everyone will agree that no-one wants to see this type of thing happening," he said.
"Our responsibility is to protect our club and its players and we will be making representations to the appropriate authorities."
