Hendrie has made over 300 appearances for Villa |
Stoke have seen off competition from Crystal Palace and QPR to complete the loan signing of Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie. The 29-year-old has fallen out of favour at Villa Park, making only one substitute appearance this season.
That prompted the former England Under-21 international to ask Villa boss Martin O'Neill for a move.
His arrival will be a big boost to Tony Pulis' side who have won one of nine league games so far this season.
Hendrie was a key player for Villa as they finished sixth in the Premiership three years ago, David O'Leary's first season in charge.
However, he lost his place in the side after of a series of nagging injuries and made only a handful of starts last season.
He won the only England cap of his career as a substitute against the Czech Republic in 1998 - but hopes he can return to Villa Park and impress O'Neill.
"Martin spoke to me and said he has me in his plans and when I asked about maybe going out on loan he said it was a good idea," said Hendrie.
"I want to try to get my confidence back up, and go back and see if they will give me a chance.
"I need to get back to the form that I had a few seasons ago and prove to myself that I can get back to that level."
