Stockport manager Paul Simpson says he would be delighted to avoid relegation from the Football League this season.
County were relegated from League One last term after finishing the season bottom of the table, 18 points adrift of Southend above them.
"The target has to be to make sure we stay in League Two," Simpson told BBC Radio Manchester.
"My only thought is that we have a team that can finish third bottom and still be here next year."
Simpson added: "We've got no aspirations of competing at the top. We've got to stabilise as this club has been on its belly.
"There's nobody I'm thinking we must finish above."
The former Shrewsbury boss took over from Gary Ablett in July, who lasted just one season at County with seven wins from 51 games.
County spent much of last season's campaign in administration before new owners 2015 Consortium took over the club in June.
