Stevenage boss Graham Westley coy on trialists

Graham Westley
Westley has made five signings already this summer

Graham Westley says he will not make a decision on whether to sign any of his Stevenage trialists until they prove their match fitness.

Strikers Omer Riza and Chris Dickson were given a run-out in a 2-0 win at Histon on Wednesday, but Westley is not about to offer them deals immediately.

He told BBC Three Counties Radio: "It's all about improvement with some of the lads that are in.

"If they reach the standard we're looking for then we may do something."

Riza, 30, began his career at Arsenal but was most recently released by Aldershot Town.

The former Cambridge United man laid on the opener for Yemi Odubade against the Stutes.

Dickson, 25, made his way through the non-league ranks before signing for Charlton in 2007.

He had loan spells at Crewe, Bristol Rovers and Gillingham, where he scored a total of eight goals in 21 league games, before being released by the Addicks this summer.

"Obviously anyone who is in trialling must fit into the category of what we're searching for," Westley added.

"No disrespect to the lads that are already here, but you can see from some of the lads we're looking at that they've got a different dimension to some of the lads already in the squad."

Westley is also monitoring 24-year-old Bromley striker Warren McBean, who came on as a substitute in the second-half at the Glass World Stadium.
