Manager Steve Bull was downcast after Stafford Rangers were relegated from the Blue Square Premier after Tuesday's 4-0 defeat by York City.
Rangers were 10 points adrift when he took over in February, but they have failed to win a league game since then.
"We knew all along it was a hard task. I'm not a miracle worker, I don't think anyone could have kept Stafford up," Bull told BBC Radio Stoke.
"I can take it though, we now just have to be ready for next year."
The ex-England striker added: "I had never seen the team play until I became manager. At the minute I've got scouts all over the place.
"I need a spine to my team, two centre backs, two midfielders and a forward."
"The players who are here now have got five games to show me they deserve to be here next year.
"I won't be saying anything to the players yet who is staying and who will go as it will affect their confidence."
