St Mirren's Mehmet joins Turkish club Genclerbirligi
Mehmet moves to Turkey on a two-year deal
Billy Mehmet has joined Turkish club Genclerbirligi on a two-year deal with a one-year option to extend his stay.
The St Mirren striker, 26, will move on a Bosman free transfer on 1 July when his contract expires.
Saints chairman Stewart Gilmour said: "I'm sad to see him go. Billy was a successful player for us. If he feels a move is right, we wish him well."
Genclerbirligi are also keen to sign Michael Stewart from Hearts. He arrived in Ankara on Monday morning for talks.
London-born Mehmet began his career at West Ham before being snapped up by Dunfermline in 2003. He moved west to Paisley to join the Buddies two years later and signed a contract extension with the club in February 2008.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 cap scored the winning goal when St Mirren beat Dundee to clinch the First Division 2005/06 championship.
The imposing centre-forward made 141 starting appearances for St Mirren and 51 as a substitute, scoring 39 goals.
