St Johnstone have signed defender Danny Grainger from Scottish Premier League rivals Dundee United.
The 22-year-old negotiated a two-year contract with the Perth outfit on Wednesday after a fee was agreed between the clubs.
Grainger said: "I want to play football every week and hopefully I will get a chance to do that here."
Saints manager Derek McInnes said he was delighted to sign a quality left back for his tilt at the SPL.
The English left-back spent six years with Gretna, helping the club rise to the SPL.
He moved to Tannadice in January 2008 and made 28 first-team appearances for United.
However, with the arrival of fellow defender Andy Webster on loan from Rangers on Wednesday, United have viewed Grainger as surplus to requirements.
And Grainger said he was relishing the prospect of turning out for Saints in the new season.
"Derek McInnes and Tony Docherty have shown faith in me. I will repay that faith in the SPL," he said.
"I knew Saints were looking for a left-back and I fitted the bill. I was delighted when their interest was rekindled.
"Now I'm looking forward to the start of the new season. Now it can't come soon enough for me."
McInnes added: "Danny ticks all the boxes for me. He is aggressive, energetic, tall and he can play."
