Blues captain Craig Easton is optimistic on the future
Easton played 38 games for Southend this season
Southend United captain Craig Easton believes the Blues are more than capable of making a promotion challenge in their next League Two campaign.
The Blues finished 13th this season having signed 17 new players in the build up to the first game.
"I think the manager has a long-term plan and it doesn't happen overnight," Easton told BBC Essex.
"Coming from where we were at the start of last season we're moving forward. It bodes well for next season."
Easton added: "It took time for not only the squad to gel but also for the fans to build-up a relationship with the players and that's understandable."
The midfielder, who was one of the 17 players to join the Shrimpers last summer, is one of a number of players out of contract at Roots Hall.
"I think the future is looking good and I'd love to be a part of it.
"We're starting to sit down and talk about things and hopefully we can sort something out and build for next season," he concluded.
