Southend United youngster Merrick James-Lewis has signed a professional contract with the club.
The 18-year-old midfielder, who came through the Blues' youth system, had been offered a development contract.
But the former Fulham apprentice has impressed the club's new manager Paul Sturrock so much that the teenager has now signed a two-year deal.
James-Lewis has been involved in first- team training this season and has also played in Southend's reserve side.
