Herd came through the youth ranks at Southend United
Southend United have extended Johnny Herd's stay at Roots Hall by taking up an option on his contract.
The Blues full-back was out of contract at the end of the season but have acted on a clause in his deal which will keep him at the club for a further year.
The 20-year-old made 22 appearances last season as Southend were relegated to League Two.
Goalkeeper Kelvin Jack has left Southend after joining on a non-contract basis in February.
