Southend hoping to pay off debts

Ron Martin
Ron Martin has issued several statements about the club's finances

Southend United chairman Ron Martin says he has managed to put "the building blocks in place" to pay off their outstanding debts.

The Blues face a High Court hearing in London on Wednesday, 4 November where HM Revenue & Customs will look to place the club into administration.

Southend owe almost £700,000 for an outstanding tax bill.

Martin told the club's website: "Further work is to be done, it will go to the wire."

Last week, the club was set to go to court to face a winding-up order but were told tax officials had changed their position and an administration hearing was then set for next week.

In his latest statement released before Friday's 1-0 win over Gillingham, Martin reiterated: "We have absolutely no wish to escape any debt and as such are doing everything possible to avoid administration."
