Southend United have secured the future of promising youngster Stuart O'Keefe.

The 17-year-old has signed a three-year contract, his first as a professional since joining from Ipswich in 2006.

O'Keefe has been in impressive form for the Blues youth team, including scoring twice in a recent FA Youth Cup tie against Brentford.

The midfielder said: "I've always wanted to be a professional since I started playing football at nine years of age."
