Clarke has impressed while on loan at Roots Hall |
Striker Leon Clarke's anticipated transfer from Sheffield Wednesday to Southend has been put on hold. Earlier, Southend chairman Ron Martin had said the deal was being held up by an issue over money owed to Clarke, who was on loan at Roots Hall, by the Owls.
"A deal has not gone through and there is a doubt it will," Owls boss Brian Laws said of the 22-year-old's move.
Meanwhile, Southend have signed winger Damien Scannell, 22, from non-league side Eastleigh for 5,000.
He had also reportedly been a target for both Nottingham Forest and Blue Square South outfit Eastleigh's near neighbours Southampton.
