Lallana hopes to make his international debut after impressing at club level.

Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana is hoping to make his first appearance in an England Under-21 shirt on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old is a new face in Stuart Pearce's squad to face Wales over two legs for a place in the European Championship finals.

He told BBC Radio Solent: "There's a lot of really good established Premier League players in the squad.

"If I get a few minutes it will just be a great experience and another step on in my career, so I'm really happy."

Lallana has scored two goals for Saints in 13 league and cup appearances.

If the Southampton youngster does get his chance on Tuesday, he could be lining up against Saints full-back Lloyd James, after the 20-year-old defender was named in the Wales Under-21 squad.

Tuesday evening's match is at Ninian Park in Cardiff, with the return at Villa Park on Friday.
