Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner said his side deserved their 5-1 win over Ilfracombe Town in the South West Challenge Cup.
In his first competitive game in charge of the club since taking over from Paul Simpson, Turner was pleased with the effort from his players.
"We passed the ball around well and created a number of good chances," he told the club website.
New signings Ian Sharps and Matt Harrold both scored in the first half.
Midfielder Steve Leslie, Benjamin van den Broek and Jake Robinson completed the victory in the pre-season friendly tournament taking place in Devon.
Turner added: "There are a few things that we need to address like a couple of silly square balls, just simple things and nothing too major."
The tournament also involves Blackpool, Accrington, Doncaster, Leyton Orient and Kilmarnock, and a number of non-league clubs.
