Shrewsbury take ex-Doncaster keeper Ben Smith on trial
Turner is looking for a new goalkeeper, midfielder and striker
Shrewsbury have stepped up their chase for a new goalkeeper by giving a trial to Ben Smith, who was released by Doncaster at the end of last season.
"We need another keeper, whether that's Ben or someone else," Town boss Graham Turner told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"He'll be working with the squad, so we and [new goalkeeping coach] Paul Gerrard can take a good look at him."
Turner has also targeted the need for at least one striker and a midfielder ahead of the new League Two campaign.
"We're short up front player, with Nathan Elder out until Christmas and Kris Bright a doubtful starter next month," he added. "That only leaves us Jake Robinson and young Tom Bradshaw.
"And with Terry Dunfield leaving, we need a senior central midfielder."
Smith, 23, will be hoping to impress Turner after his departure from Doncaster, where he spent the past four seasons.
He also had loan spells at Lincoln and Morecambe, after staring his professional career as a trainee at Newcastle.
