Shrewsbury manager Paul Simpson has told winger Chris Humphrey that he could damage his first-team chances by delaying signing a new contract.
"The longer this drags on, the less involvement he'll have in our build-up to the new season," Simpson told BBC Radio Shropshire.
Humphrey was offered a two-year deal but wanted to wait for other offers.
Town rejected a bid from Blackpool, but there has been no follow-up. There were also rumours of Aston Villa interest.
Humphrey, 20, was left behind by Simpson when the rest of the Town squad flew out for their summer training camp in Spain.
"I decided not to take him if he wasn't committing himself to us," added Simpson.
"We want him to sign the deal we offered back in May, and while he's holding back I can't involve him in our pre-season plans."
