Jackson ruled out of Wembley date

Mike Jackson has won promotion four times with Bury, Preston and Blackpool

Mike Jackson's on-going knee injury has ruled him out of Shrewsbury's League Two play-off final date with Gillingham at Wembley on Saturday week.

After tearing a leg muscle at Luton on 21 February, despite surgery, the Town defender has been unable to return.

"It would be great to have him, but he is not right," said boss Paul Simpson.

"We've resigned ourselves to the fact that it'll now be the start of pre-season when he'll come back into it, Simpson told BBC Radio Shropshire."

"He's as frustrated as everyone else that he can't play."

Jackson, 35, arrived at Oteley Road last June on a two-year deal on a free transfer from Blackpool - where he had been club captain.

When Simpson heard the defender had been released, he moved quickly to sign him, wanting Jackson's experience of 600-plus games to help bring on his young squad.

Jackson was out for almost three months earlier this season with an ankle injury, picked up at Chesterfield in mid-November.

And he had only been back in the Town team for five games, scoring in the return game against Chesterfield, before he picked up his latest injury.
