Shrewsbury Town have completed the signing of Macclesfield midfielder Terry Dunfield for an undisclosed fee, reports BBC Radio Shropshire.
Dunfield passed a medical at the Prostar stadium and he will travel with the squad for the Shrews' League Two match against Barnet on Tuesday.
Simpson told BBC Radio Shropshire: "He's a natural player and he'll strengthen the midfield."
The Canadian-born midfielder started his career with Manchester City.
The 26-year-old was given permission to talk to Shrewsbury last week after both clubs agreed a fee for the Macclesfield skipper.
"The midfield is an area I felt we needed to strengthen especially with Kevin McIntyre's injury and Terry is another good player," Simpson said.
Dunfield made 66 appearances for the Silkmen after joining them from Bury.
