Shrewsbury Town's youngsters felt they were hard done by in their 1-0 FA Youth Cup defeat by Ipswich at Portman Road.
Irish Under-18 international Ronan Murray's second-half penalty proved decisive, but Town created a number of chances without finding the net.
Gareth Partridge went agonisingly close to a last-minute equaliser, but somehow missed the target from close range.
"We lacked a cutting edge, and couldn't repeat our good home form," coach Nigel Vaughan told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"Having said that, we stuck together as a team, and we still have the Midland Youth Cup and the Puma Alliance Cup to look forward to."
Shrewsbury had already beaten Chesterfield and Bradford at the Prostar Stadium before facing Ipswich.
Last season the Shrews managed a shock 1-0 win at Premier League Newcastle before going out to Chelsea.
