Shrewsbury Town's players have been warned there will be no holiday atmosphere in their Spanish pre-season training camp.

At the start of his first full season, boss Paul Simpson has arranged a four-day session at Almeria.

"I've been over there and tested everything - it won't be a holiday," Simpson told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"The players will be worked very hard and hopefully they'll come back stronger as a unit and fitter as well."

He is also looking to assess the personalities of his players.

"Over the season we'll spend a lot of time together and we need to know the type of characters we've got, including who needs a slap round the head and who needs a quiet word," he said.

Shrewsbury will fly out to Spain on 13 July.
