Murray eyes promotion with Shrews

Shrewsbury Town's new signing Paul Murray says the ambitious attitude at the club was his reason for dropping into League Two.

"It's set up for big things, and that's why I've come here," said Murray, who was captain at Gretna last season.

"Paul Simpson's won promotion at this level with Carlisle, and knows how to do it," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

Murray, who has previously played at QPR and Southampton, has been signed to bolster Shrewbury's youthful squad.

"There are a lot of talented young players here, but hopefully I can add a bit of experience and knowledge to that," the 31-year-old midfielder said.

And he added that his time at Gretna has stood him in good stead.

"Obviously with not being paid was mentally tough, but I've worked hard all season and now I'm raring to go here at Shrewsbury."
