Soares had a spell on loan at Charlton last season

Sheffield Wednesday have extended the loan of Stoke City midfielder Tom Soares until 25 January.

The 23-year-old only made his first start for the Owls against Newcastle on Boxing Day and will be allowed to play against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.

Caretaker manager Sean McAuley said: "The way he played in our last game showed that he would be a valuable addition to our squad.

"He's also pleased to come back, so it suits everybody."

McAuley added: "Tom's enthusiasm and desire to play has impressed everybody, he understands the position we are in and he's not going to sit back and wait for things to happen because he wants to improve his career."
