Buxton has started 15 Championship games for the Owls this season
Sheffield Wednesday have signed Stoke City defender Lewis Buxton on a permanent basis for a nominal fee.
Manager Brian Laws told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We've signed him for the next two seasons, so we're delighted."
The 25-year-old, who has enjoyed a successful loan spell from the Britannia Stadium, has agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal.
"He's at a really good age - I've got a good player and an energetic player who can play as well," added Laws.
He continued: "It's a good bit of business. In the last three months he's been with us, he's been excellent, and very versatile.
"He desperately, desperately wants to do well. We've seen him at left-back and he's been very comfortable. We've seen him at right-back. We've played him at centre-half, we can even play him in midfield."
