Watson's only league start this season came in the 4-1 defeat at Wolves
Sheffield Wednesday club captain Steve Watson is hoping to challenge for a place in the Owls' starting line-up after the international break.
The 33-year-old has had a series of injuries that have meant he is still not fully fit and has started only one Championship match.
Watson told BBC Radio Sheffield he will work on his fitness during the break.
"I've got this break now to get myself fully fit, hopefully I will be fit for the Watford game, no excuses," he said.
"Since Holland I have been struggling with back and hip problems, but the gaffer [Brian Laws] has been great with me.
"We haven't got a lot of experience in the squad, there is only really me, Deon Burton and James O'Connor, so we do need everybody to lend a hand."
Watson scored his first goal of the season at Swansea after coming on as a second-half substitute and said he would like to contribute more in front of goal.
"I would like to play a bit closer to the strikers and scoring might give the gaffer a hint, I suppose that is my way of putting a word in," he added.
