Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock has decided to stay at the Championship club despite being approached to take over the vacant job at Portsmouth. Warnock was given permission to speak to Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric, but he said: "We had a good conversation but at the end I knew I wanted to stay.
"I think there's politics involved in Portsmouth and I don't want to get into that. I don't need the hassle."
"It's nice to have everything cut and dried and to know what we are doing."
Warnock admitted he had been tempted by a move to the Premiership but was happy to pledge his future to the Blades.
"The decision's been made and I'm staying put. We've had a word with the players and we've got a tough game on Saturday - what's gone is gone and we move on.
"At the moment I run the club and I've got tremendous backing, a great bunch of lads and the best team I've ever managed."
Sheffield United plc chairman Kevin McCabe was delighted to see Warnock agree to stay at Bramall Lane.
"We are delighted Neil Warnock's future remains here," said McCabe.
"I have been able to show Neil - and he has recognised - he has a key role in shaping our quest for the top flight.
"I wish the Portsmouth saga had not started but in the end the outcome demonstrates the importance of the relationship between a chairman and his manager."
Warnock has been at the club for six years but his contract ends in June and he is still waiting on a new one.
