Scunthorpe to hold talks with Killie striker Sammon

Scunthorpe United are to hold talks with Kilmarnock striker Conor Sammon, after agreeing a fee for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international.

"He's not been to the club," Scunthorpe manager Ian Baraclough told BBC Radio Humberside. "He's not spoken to us face to face yet, which I'd prefer to do.

"Once we get him in then hopefully we can tie the deal up."

Sammon, 24, has scored 16 goals for the SPL side this season including one in Saturday's 1-1 draw with St Johnstone.

And his prolific form has left Baraclough keen to wrap up the signing of the young Dubliner before Kilmarnock get any other offers.

"Although they've agreed a fee, it doesn't stop anybody else coming and putting more on the table which is why I don't want to reveal targets and I'm very guarded against it," added Baraclough.

Sammon started his career with home town club University College Dublin before moving to Derry City.

He joined Kilmarnock in July 2008, after making only 16 appearances for League of Ireland side.

"I haven't heard any different," said Sammon after Saturday's game.

"I've just heard the stories in the papers that Scunthorpe were interested, but I'm focusing on training as usual.

"I haven't discussed it with the manager.

"Our next match is on Tuesday so that's all I'm focusing on and, if things change in the mean time, I'm sure I'll be told about it and I'll sit down and take it from there."
