Scunthorpe plan summer spending

Scunthorpe players celebrate
Scunthorpe were promoted thanks to Sunday's 3-2 win over Millwall

Scunthorpe chairman Steve Wharton is to hold talks with manager Nigel Adkins to plan the club's summer spending after their promotion to the Championship.

The Iron earned their place back in the second tier of English football thanks to Sunday's 3-2 victory over Millwall in the League One play-off final.

Wharton told BBC Look North: "Nigel wants a bigger budget but I've told him to wait."

United estimate that promotion will bring an additional £2.7m to the club.

"The objective is to stay in the Championship," added Adkins.

"We had a good experience last season and came down and we can draw on that experience and give a good account of ourselves."

The Scunthorpe players have now left for their summer break but will return for pre-season training on 1 July.
