McCann not expecting further caps

Grant McCann
McCann says he is frustrated at falling from international favour.

Scunthorpe United midfielder Grant McCann does not expect a recall to the Northern Ireland squad despite his good early season form in League One.

The 28-year-old has won 14 caps for his country, the last more than 18 months ago in the 2-1 win over Sweden.

He told BBC Radio Humberside:"I don't think [Northern Ireland boss] Nigel Worthington fancies me. I can't do anything about that.

"All I can do is put my head down and work hard for Scunthorpe."

McCann, who moved to Scunthorpe from Barnsley in January, added: "The way I'm feeling at the minute, it is a bit frustrating for me.

I was getting stand-by letters but I'm not even getting those now

"If I do get the call again, I get the call - but I'm not expecting it."

The former West Ham trainee says he is puzzled by the way he has fallen from favour.

"I was getting stand-by letters but I'm not even getting those now. [Worthington] has not explained to me the reason for that."
