Scunthorpe complete deal for Lea

Michael Lea
Lea made 15 appearances for Belgian side Royal Antwerp

Scunthorpe have completed the signing of former Manchester United defender Michael Lea on a free transfer.

The 20-year-old signed a one-year deal, with the option of an extra year, on Friday morning.

He has impressed Iron boss Nigel Adkins in friendlies against Brigg Town and Doncaster Rovers.

Lea was released at the end of last season by Sir Alex Ferguson after never making a first-team appearance for the Premier League champions.

Adkins was quick to offer Lea a contract and he has become the Iron's fourth signing of the summer.

Lea rose through the ranks at Old Trafford, appearing for the reserves and under-18 teams.

He was loaned out to Belgian side Royal Antwerp during his time with last season's Champions League winners.
