Salisbury need respect - Clarke

Darrell Clarke

Salisbury captain Darrell Clarke believes his side are not getting enough respect from rival teams because of their position in the league table.

After losing 10 points for going into administration, the Whites lie 16th despite being unbeaten in four games.

"Teams are still underestimating us and don't give the respect we deserve. We're on 24 points, that's what we believe," he told BBC Wiltshire.

"For me personally we're a top ten team though the table doesn't show that."

Salisbury, who face in-form York City at the weekend, would currently be ninth in the table had it not been for the deduction.

Aside from manager Tommy Widdrington, who is still registered as a player, Clarke is the oldest in the Salisbury squad and is amazed at how well the new young signings and loan players have adapted.

As soon as we had the meeting with the potential new owners it gave everyone a lift because these guys want to run the football club properly

"The gaffer keeps pulling players out of nowhere. I can't praise the lads enough," he said.

Whilst the Whites are enjoying good form on the pitch, the club is closer to having new owners as formal talks have begun between a consortium and the HM Revenue & Customs.

And Clarke feels it can only help the players perform.

"As soon as we had the meeting with the potential new owners it gave everyone a lift because these guys want to run the football club properly," he added.

"Off the field for me the club probably got two relegations if you like.

"It's never nice when you never know if you're going to get paid. I've got a family to support and we're not rich footballers.

"Its onwards and upwards now for Salisbury."
