Former Luton Town captain Kevin Nicholls has joined the Rushden & Diamonds coaching staff.
The midfielder, 31, who had been training with Diamonds throughout October, was released by the Hatters in August following a serious knee injury.
Boss Justin Edinburgh told the club's website: "He didn't feel his body could train and play anymore.
"I think he's got good knowledge and will probably give us a different perspective," he added.
"The players will learn from him and I feel if I can give someone the opportunity it's the right thing to do."
Nicholls scored 33 times in 244 appearances during two spells with Luton, and also played for Charlton, Wigan, Leeds and Preston.
