Rushden and Diamonds manager Justin Edinburgh was pleased with his side after victory over Blackpool.
Diamonds won 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the Errea South West Challenge Cup.
Edinburgh told the club's website: "It was a very tough test and we played some good stuff against an excellent Championship side.
"It was a very good finish from Aaron O'Connor, he had plenty of time and those ones can be a bit difficult".
An injury to Nick McNamara was the only negative for the Diamonds.
"McNamara lost consciousness for a little while. There was no malice in the challenge, it was just two honest boys going for the ball," Edinburgh said.
Diamonds now play Barnstaple on Friday at 2000 BST, and could progress into a semi-final with Yeovil or Grimsby.
"Barnstaple will be a different kind of game because obviously we'll be expected to win, whereas against Blackpool there was no pressure on us," Edinburgh added.
