Rotherham have appointed caretaker boss Alan Knill as manager until the end of the season. Knill had been in temporary charge at Millmoor following Mick Harford's departure just before Christmas.
Chairman Peter Ruchniewicz told Rotherham's website: "In the last few weeks Alan has truly earned his spurs."
Knill said: "It's been a tough season for all sorts of reasons but I'm delighted to get the chance to move the club forward."
Rotherham have rewarded Knill's loyalty following his second spell as caretaker boss.
Knill took the reins when Ronnie Moore was sacked, but was passed over in favour of Harford who was appointed last April.
Harford was sacked in December after presiding over a run of 17 league and cup games without a win.
Millers chairman Ruchniewicz said: "Everyone knows the club is going through the pain of reconstruction after relegation from the Championship.
"However, Alan has worked well with the players at his disposal and they have responded positively to his style of management and coaching."
