Knill has won just one of his eight league matches at the helm |
Acting Rotherham manager Alan Knill is set to re-apply for the job at Millmoor on a permanent basis. "When we met with Alan and (assistant) Mark (Robins) earlier this week I was delighted to hear that Alan wanted to be considered for the position.
"He has tremendous knowledge of the game and his coaching abilities are bringing benefits at all levels," said chairman Peter Ruchniewicz.
The Millers are currently bottom of the Championship, 16 points from safety.
Knill took over at the end of January when Ronnie Moore left the club by mutual consent.
Rotherham seemed destined for relegation even then and Ruchniewicz added that Knill, the former reserve and youth-team coach, knew he would have to interview for his job come the end of the season when he took the reins.
"We are seeking to draw up a shortlist of candidates," Ruchniewicz said.
"Alan and Mark were aware when they took their current temporary posts to the end of the season that the club would go through a process of interviews for the permanent positions.
"With his partnership with Mark, Alan has shown already what he can bring to the club and the playing squad."
